  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; classifying Carisoprodol 
  1.3             as a controlled substance upon the effective date of a 
  1.4             final rule adding Carisoprodol to the federal 
  1.5             schedules of controlled substances; amending Laws 
  1.6             1997, chapter 239, article 4, section 15, as amended. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Laws 1997, chapter 239, article 4, section 15, 
  1.9   as amended by Laws 1998, chapter 367, article 4, section 7, Laws 
  1.10  1999, chapter 9, section 1, and Laws 2000, chapter 262, section 
  1.11  1, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Sec. 15.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.13     The provision of section 4 relating to the listing of 
  1.14  Butorphanol in schedule IV is effective August 1, 1998, and 
  1.15  applies to acts committed on or after that date.  The provision 
  1.16  of section 4 relating to the listing of Carisoprodol in schedule 
  1.17  IV is effective August 1, 2001, on the effective date of a final 
  1.18  rule adding Carisoprodol to the federal schedules of controlled 
  1.19  substances under United States Code, title 21, section 811, and 
  1.20  applies to acts committed on or after that date.  Sections 1 to 
  1.21  3 and 5 to 13 are effective August 1, 1997, and apply to acts 
  1.22  committed on or after that date.  Section 14 is effective the 
  1.23  day following final enactment. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2001.
