A bill for an act
relating to arts and culture; appropriating money to commemorate Vietnam
War/Southeast Asian conflict.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF VIETNAM
WAR/SOUTHEAST ASIAN CONFLICT.
new text end

new text begin (a) $300,000 in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the arts and cultural heritage fund
to the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Humanities Center for a joint commemoration
program for the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War/Southeast Asian conflict that recognizes
and honors the contributions of the Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian, and Hmong and Minnesota
Vietnam veterans.
new text end

new text begin (b) The Minnesota Humanities Center must consult with the Council on Asian Pacific
Minnesotans in preparing the program, to leverage the unique skills sets and relationships
that the council has developed in the four Southeast Asian Minnesotan communities and
the broader communities. These relationships will help ensure the ability of the smaller,
less-experienced communities to participate in the design, implementation, and hosting of
a once-in-a-lifetime commemoration program that reflects the significance of the 50th
anniversary of the Vietnam War/Southeast Asian conflict. The Minnesota Humanities Center
and the council must ensure that the collaboration between these communities, a first of its
kind, will lead to a successful commemoration program for Minnesota and the nation.

new text begin (c) Any money remaining after the joint commemoration program is completed may be
used by the Minnesota Humanities Center for other authorized purposes and is available
until expended.
