A bill for an act
relating to health care; requiring health care providers to provide patients with an
itemized description of billed charges for health care services and goods; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 144.591.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 144.591, is amended to read:

new text begin For purposes of this section, "health care provider" means:

new text begin (1) a hospital, including a hospital designated as a critical access hospital;

new text begin (2) an outpatient surgical center;

new text begin (3) a health clinic or health professional office; or
new text end

new text begin (4) a health professional who is licensed or registered by the state to provide health care
services within the professional's scope of practice.

new text begin A hospital, outpatient surgical center, health clinic, or health
professional office may compile the itemized descriptions of billed charges for the services
and goods provided to a patient by individual health professionals employed by or under
contract with the hospital, outpatient surgical center, health clinic, or health professional
office, and may provide the patient with a single itemized description of billed charges from
that hospital, outpatient surgical center, health clinic, or health professional office.
