A bill for an act
relating to libraries; directing the commissioner of education to amend rules relating
to regional libraries.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin REGIONAL LIBRARIES; COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION.

new text begin The commissioner of education must amend Minnesota Rules, part 3530.1000, item A,
to strike the requirement that the chief administrative officer of a regional library system
must have received a master's degree in library science from a library education program
accredited by the American Library Association. Beginning April 1, 2024, a regional library
system may employ a chief administrative officer who does not hold a master's degree in
library science.
