A bill for an act
relating to transportation; appropriating money for grants to suburban transit
providers for transit system safety, modernization, and technology improvements.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin REPLACEMENT SERVICE TRANSIT PROVIDERS; SAFETY,
MODERNIZATION, AND TECHNOLOGY APPROPRIATION.

new text begin (a) $....... in fiscal year 2021 is appropriated from the general fund to the Metropolitan
Council for a grant to the Suburban Transit Association. The council must not retain any
portion of the funds appropriated under this section and must make grant payments in full
by July 31, 2020. This is a onetime appropriation.

new text begin (b) The Suburban Transit Association must distribute the grant funds to replacement
service providers under Minnesota Statutes, section 473.388, for:

new text begin (1) safety improvements on buses and at transit stations; and

new text begin (2) transit system modernization and technology infrastructure, including fare boxes,
self-service fare payment systems, and intelligent transportation systems for transit.

Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington.
