A bill for an act
relating to education finance; appropriating money for a curriculum best practices
sharing grant.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education for the fiscal years
designated.

(a) For a competitive grant to provide a
website with sample curricula aligned to the state academic standards for teachers throughout
the state:

(b) The commissioner of education must establish the form and manner for application.
School districts, charter schools, intermediate districts, cooperative units under Minnesota
Statutes, section 123A.24, subdivision 2, and joint powers districts under Minnesota Statutes,
section 471.59 are eligible to apply.

(c) The grant recipient must post sample curricula to a website as an open resource. The
website must include a feedback mechanism for teachers to provide comments and ratings
on the sample curricula.

(d) The Department of Education's website must contain a link to the website with the
sample curricula. The department's website must indicate that the selected sample curricula
are aligned to appropriate state academic standards and benchmarks, but the examples are
not considered endorsements by the department. The first shared sample curricula must be
posted online by January 1, 2021.
