A bill for an act
relating to health; establishing a task force to study and make recommendations
on violence against mental health care workers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin Creation. new text end

new text begin The commissioner of health shall convene a task force
to study the issue of workplace violence against staff in facilities that provide mental
health care. The task force shall make recommendations on legislation to the legislature
by January 1, 2009. The task force must investigate the number of assaults on staff by
patients and the injuries sustained. The task force is governed by Minnesota Statutes,
section 15.059.

new text begin The task force shall consist of 11 members appointed as
follows:

new text begin (1) seven members must be appointed by the commissioner of health and must
include representatives of mental health facility staff and management;

new text begin (2) two members, one of whom must be a member of the house of representatives,
must be appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; and
new text end

new text begin (3) two members, one of whom must be a member of the senate, must be appointed
by the Rules and Legislative Administration Committee of the senate.
