  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; clarifying a timeline 
  1.3             under the consolidation transition revenue program; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 123A.485, 
  1.5             subdivision 4. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 123A.485, 
  1.8   subdivision 4, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 4.  [NEW DISTRICTS.] If a district consolidates with 
  1.10  another district that has received aid under section 123A.39, 
  1.11  subdivision 3, or 123A.485 for a combination or consolidation 
  1.12  taking effect within six years of the effective date of the new 
  1.13  consolidation, only the pupil units in the district or districts 
  1.14  not previously reorganized must be counted for aid purposes 
  1.15  under subdivision 2.  If two or more districts consolidate and 
  1.16  all districts received aid under subdivision 2 for a 
  1.17  consolidation taking effect within six years of the effective 
  1.18  date of the new consolidation, only one quarter of the pupil 
  1.19  units in the newly created district must be used to determine 
  1.20  aid under subdivision 2. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
