  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; waiving solid waste 
  1.3             management taxes for counties affected by recent 
  1.4             tornadoes. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT TAX WAIVER.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the commissioner 
  1.8   of revenue shall waive solid waste management taxes under 
  1.9   Minnesota Statutes, chapter 297H, for construction debris 
  1.10  generated from repair and demolition activities in counties 
  1.11  designated as disaster areas due to tornado and other weather 
  1.12  damage on March 29, 1998, and disposed of in a licensed waste 
  1.13  management facility.  The commissioner of revenue's authority 
  1.14  under this section to waive the taxes expires for waste 
  1.15  transported to the designated facilities after December 31, 1998.
  1.16     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.17     Section 1 is effective on the day following final enactment.
