A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring a report on school bus fires.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin SCHOOL BUS FIRE REPORT.

new text begin The commissioner of education must analyze school bus fires that have occurred
during the five-year period from 2005 through 2009. The commissioner must prepare a
report summarizing, at least, the total number of bus fires in Minnesota during the five-year
period, the rate of bus fires per 1,000 buses, the cause of each bus fire, and the number of
deaths resulting from bus fires, and the total cost to repair or replace the buses involved.
By January 15, 2011, the commissioner must submit the report to the chairs and ranking
minority members of the legislative committees and divisions with jurisdiction over
kindergarten through grade 12 policy and finance and transportation policy and finance.
