relating to game and fish; modifying walleye stocking provisions; requiring a
report; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 97C.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin The commissioner of natural resources may not raise walleye in any waters in which
walleye do not naturally occur and reproduce. The commissioner must acquire walleye for
stocking from waters in which walleye are naturally occurring and reproducing or through
purchases from private fish hatcheries.

Sec. 2. new text begin WALLEYE STOCKING REPORT.

new text begin By October 1, 2024, the commissioner of natural resources must report to the chairs and
ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over environment
and natural resources finance on walleye stocking efforts in this state. The report must
include:

new text begin (1) an assessment of how and the extent to which walleye stocking has impacted the
ability of affected waters to sustain aquatic life; and

new text begin (2) an enumeration and analysis of all expenditures related to rearing and stocking
walleye.
