  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; authorizing a grant for 
  1.3             distance learning programs to independent school 
  1.4             district No. 390, Lake of the Woods; appropriating 
  1.5             money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [MODEL DISTANCE LEARNING GRANT: LAKE OF THE 
  1.8   WOODS.] 
  1.9      $250,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 1999 from the 
  1.10  general fund to the commissioner of children, families, and 
  1.11  learning for a grant to independent school district No. 390, 
  1.12  Lake of the Woods.  The grant is for the development of a model 
  1.13  distance learning program.  The model program must address 
  1.14  students' curriculum needs for vocational programs, advanced 
  1.15  collegiate level courses, gifted and talented programming, 
  1.16  programming for students with disabilities, and other areas of 
  1.17  programming made more difficult because of the school district's 
  1.18  geographic isolation. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1998.
