A bill for an act
relating to human services; modifying the food stamp asset limit; proposing
coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapters 256; 256D.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [256.029] DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INFORMATIONAL BROCHURE.

new text begin (a) The commissioner shall provide a domestic violence informational brochure that
provides information about the existence of domestic violence waivers for eligible public
assistance applicants to all public assistance applicants. The brochure must explain that
eligible applicants may be temporarily waived from certain program requirements due
to domestic violence. The brochure must provide information about services and other
programs to help victims of domestic violence.

Sec. 2.

new text begin [256D.0515] ASSET LIMITATIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS AND
FAMILIES.

new text begin To be eligible for food stamps, a person must not individually own more than $4,000
in assets or, if a member of a household with two family members, husband and wife or
parent and child, the household must not own more than $6,000 in assets, plus $200 for
each additional legal dependent.
