  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; creating a model technology 
  1.3             program; authorizing a levy. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [MODEL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM.] 
  1.6      Subdivision 1.  [PROGRAM.] A school district may develop a 
  1.7   model technology program.  The program must provide for a 
  1.8   systematic implementation of the district's technology plan.  
  1.9   The plan must include a schedule of hardware and software 
  1.10  purchases as well as provide for the technical support and staff 
  1.11  development necessary to fully utilize the technology. 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [EQUIPMENT LEASING.] Notwithstanding any other 
  1.13  law to the contrary, a school district may enter into an 
  1.14  arrangement to lease hardware and software for a period of time 
  1.15  mutually agreed upon by the school board and the contractor. 
  1.16     Subd. 3.  [LEVY AMOUNT.] A school district may annually 
  1.17  levy an amount not to exceed $50 per pupil unit to fund its 
  1.18  technology plan adopted under this section. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
