  1.2             relating to occupations; amending the licensure 
  1.3             requirements for social workers; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 148B.21, subdivision 
  1.5             3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.8   148B.21, subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [SOCIAL WORKER.] To be licensed as a social 
  1.10  worker, an applicant must provide evidence satisfactory to the 
  1.11  board that the applicant: 
  1.12     (1) has received a baccalaureate degree from an accredited 
  1.13  program of social work or from the accredited program within 
  1.14  three years prior to the date on which the program received 
  1.15  accreditation; 
  1.16     (2) has passed the examination provided for in section 
  1.17  148B.20, subdivision 1; 
  1.18     (3) will engage in social work practice only under 
  1.19  supervision as defined in section 148B.18, subdivision 12, for 
  1.20  at least two years in full-time employment or 4,000 hours of 
  1.21  part-time employment; 
  1.22     (4) will conduct all professional activities as a social 
  1.23  worker in accordance with standards for professional conduct 
  1.24  established by the statutes and rules of the board; and 
  1.25     (5) has not engaged in conduct warranting a disciplinary 
  2.1   action against a licensee.  If the applicant has engaged in 
  2.2   conduct warranting disciplinary action against a licensee, the 
  2.3   board may issue a license only on the applicant's showing that 
  2.4   the public will be protected through the issuance of a license 
  2.5   with conditions or limitations approved by the board.
