  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; requiring local social 
  1.3             services agencies and the department of human services 
  1.4             to collect certain information on food stamp 
  1.5             recipients; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 
  1.6             393.07, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 393.07, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 10b.  [DATA COLLECTION.] (a) Local social services 
  1.11  agencies and the department of human services shall determine 
  1.12  the number of current food stamp recipients who are either 
  1.13  members or veterans of the United States armed forces. 
  1.14     (b) The local social services agencies and the commissioner 
  1.15  of human services shall continually monitor future applications 
  1.16  to determine the number of recipients of food stamps who are 
  1.17  either members or veterans of the United States armed forces. 
  1.18     (c) The commissioner of human services shall report to the 
  1.19  legislature by January 1, 1999, on the results of the data 
  1.20  collected under paragraph (a).  The commissioner shall report by 
  1.21  January 1 of each year on the number of recipients of food 
  1.22  stamps who are members or veterans of the United States armed 
  1.23  forces.
