  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to municipalities; allowing interim licensing 
  1.3             ordinances; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes, chapter 471. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [471.708] [INTERIM LICENSING ORDINANCES.] 
  1.7      If a municipality is conducting studies, has authorized a 
  1.8   study to be conducted, has held, or has scheduled a hearing to 
  1.9   consider adoption or amendment of a licensing ordinance, the 
  1.10  governing body of the municipality may adopt an interim 
  1.11  ordinance applicable to all or part of its jurisdiction to 
  1.12  protect the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens.  The 
  1.13  interim ordinance may regulate, restrict, or prohibit any use 
  1.14  within the jurisdiction or a part of it for a period not to 
  1.15  exceed one year from the date it is effective, and may be 
  1.16  extended for the additional periods that the municipality 
  1.17  considers appropriate, not exceeding a total additional period 
  1.18  of 18 months. 
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective the day following its final 
  1.21  enactment.
