A bill for an act
relating to public safety; prohibiting misrepresentation of a service animal to gain
benefits; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) It is a misdemeanor to knowingly misrepresent the use of an animal as a service
animal in any place, accommodation, or conveyance for the purposes of securing the
rights or benefits accorded to persons with disabilities under chapters 256C and 363A or
the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.

new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, "service animal" means a service animal as defined
by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended.
