A bill for an act
relating to highways; requiring Department of Transportation to place directional
signs to certain historic sites; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section
138.666.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 138.666, is amended to read:
The state, state departments and agencies, political
subdivisions, and the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota shall cooperate
with the Minnesota Historical Society in safeguarding state historic sites and in the
preservation of historic and archaeological properties.

The Department of Transportation, to the extent it places
directional signs to historic sites as identified or designed under sections 138.661 to
138.6691, shall place directional signs to historic sites that are open only for part of each
year. The directional signs may include the months in which the historic sites are open.
The department shall take action under this section only if the costs of signs required
under this section are paid from nonstate sources.
