  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to corrections; prohibiting bodybuilding and 
  1.3             weightlifting equipment in state correctional 
  1.4             facilities; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.5             Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [243.553] [CERTAIN EXERCISE EQUIPMENT 
  1.8   PROHIBITED IN STATE PRISONS.] 
  1.9      (a) By August 1, 1998, the commissioner shall remove all 
  1.10  types of bodybuilding and weightlifting equipment from every 
  1.11  state correctional facility.  The commissioner may replace the 
  1.12  equipment with televisions, videocassette recorders, and aerobic 
  1.13  exercise videotapes. 
  1.14     (b) The possession of any type of bodybuilding or 
  1.15  weightlifting equipment by an inmate of a state correctional 
  1.16  facility on or after August 1, 1998, shall be considered 
  1.17  contraband.
