A bill for an act
relating to drivers' licenses; governing use of tribal identification cards;
amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 171.06, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 171.06, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin (a) For purposes of application for a
driver's license, instruction permit, or Minnesota identification card, the commissioner
of public safety shall adopt rules for recognition of a tribal identification card in a like
manner as a driver's license, instruction permit, or Minnesota identification card.

new text begin (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "tribal identification card" means an unexpired
identification card issued by the tribal government of a tribe recognized by the Bureau of
Indian Affairs, United States Department of the Interior, that contains the name, signature,
and picture of the individual.
