relating to education; appropriating money for a Nefertiti Institute for Sisterhood
grant.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; NEFERTITI INSTITUTE FOR SISTERHOOD
GRANT.

new text begin $1,800,000 in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of education for a grant to the Nefertiti Institute for Sisterhood to
collaborate with ARTS-Us, the Kitty Andersen Youth Science Center at the Science
Museum of Minnesota, and the St. Paul YWCA, in creating an organizational network to
support and mentor girls and young women of color residing in the eastern metropolitan
Twin Cities area by encouraging participants to build the values and skills needed for
healthy lifestyles, academic achievement, lifelong learning, and economic security.
Participants must undertake service learning, STEM career exploration and learning, and
physical activities. This appropriation remains available until expended.
