A bill for an act
relating to education; appropriating money for a Hope Community, Inc. grant;
requiring a report.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

$238,000 in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of education for a grant to Hope Community, Inc. for its Girls Empowerment
Movement program to help at-risk African-American girls develop leadership skills.
Hope Community, Inc., after consulting with the commissioner, shall submit a report to
the committees of the legislature with jurisdiction over kindergarten through grade 12
education by January 15, 2019, using aggregated student data, disaggregated by categories
of income, age, migrant or foreign immigrant status, cultural group, primary language,
English learner status, disability, and homelessness, to the extent no individual student can
be personally identified, to show the effect of the program on students' leadership abilities
and opportunities. This appropriation remains available until spent.
