  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; appropriating funds for 
  1.3             grants to purchase drug-sniffing dogs. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; PUBLIC SAFETY; DRUG-SNIFFING 
  1.6   DOGS.] 
  1.7      $150,000 is appropriated to the commissioner of public 
  1.8   safety from the general fund for fiscal year 2001 for grants 
  1.9   under Minnesota Statutes, section 299A.62, to local law 
  1.10  enforcement agencies or regional jails for the purchase of dogs 
  1.11  trained to detect or locate controlled substances by scent.  
  1.12  Grants are limited to one dog per agency.  Local law enforcement 
  1.13  agencies that previously received a grant under Laws 1999, 
  1.14  chapter 216, article 1, section 7, subdivision 6, are ineligible 
  1.15  for a grant under this section.
