  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; making permanent school 
  1.3             district levy authority for retired employee health 
  1.4             benefits expenses; amending Minnesota Statutes 1997 
  1.5             Supplement, section 124.916, subdivision 2. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1997 Supplement, section 
  1.8   124.916, subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 2.  [RETIRED EMPLOYEE HEALTH BENEFITS.] For taxes 
  1.10  payable in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999 only Each year, a school 
  1.11  district may levy an amount up to the amount the district is 
  1.12  required by the collective bargaining agreement in effect on 
  1.13  March 30, 1992, to pay for health insurance or unreimbursed 
  1.14  medical expenses for licensed and nonlicensed employees who have 
  1.15  terminated services in the employing district and withdrawn from 
  1.16  active teaching service or other active service, as applicable, 
  1.17  before July 1, 1992.  The total amount of the levy each year may 
  1.18  not exceed $300,000.  
  1.19     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.20     Section 1 is effective July 1, 1998.
