A bill for an act
relating to education finance; appropriating money for a Truce Center programming
grant.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

new text begin The sum indicated in this section is
appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education for the fiscal year
designated.

new text begin Truce Center grant. new text end

new text begin (a) For a grant to the Truce Center to continue to provide
and expand metropolitan area school and community-based programs that encourage and
support at-risk youth:

new text begin (b) Truce Center programs supported by these grant funds must include programs focused
on:

new text begin (1) supporting at-risk youth by partnering with local schools to offer behavior intervention
for at-risk youth;
new text end

new text begin (2) offering a unique and inclusive approach to rehabilitation and reform by grounding
youth in diverse perspectives;
new text end

new text begin (3) teaching youth about politics, democracy, history, and sense of self through
experiential learning;
new text end

new text begin (4) increasing the scope of program services and capacity in high-risk areas around
Minnesota to prevent violence and decrease the prevalence of firearm possession by felons;
new text end

new text begin (5) mentoring youth ages eight to 18 years old and providing tutoring services, career
training, and job placement services;
new text end

new text begin (6) providing housing resources to combat adult and teen homelessness;
new text end

new text begin (7) providing mediation services and classes for successfully addressing coparenting
issues, and educating families on the justice system and family court system;
new text end

new text begin (8) assisting with chemical dependency counseling for youth struggling with addiction;
and
new text end

new text begin (9) ensuring safe and thriving communities through other community programs and
forms of community outreach.

new text begin (c) This is a onetime appropriation. This appropriation is available until June 30, 2025.
