  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to state government; state civil service; 
  1.3             amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 43A.15, 
  1.4             subdivision 5. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 43A.15, 
  1.7   subdivision 5, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subd. 5.  [NONCOMPETITIVE PROMOTIONS.] The commissioner may 
  1.9   authorize an appointing authority to promote the incumbent with 
  1.10  permanent or probationary status to a reallocated classified 
  1.11  position.  The commissioner may not authorize an appointing 
  1.12  authority to promote the incumbent to a position that has been 
  1.13  reallocated to a different bargaining unit.
