  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; eliminating unneeded mandates 
  1.3             affecting kindergarten through grade 12 public 
  1.4             schools; amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 
  1.5             177.42, subdivision 2; repealing Minnesota Statutes 
  1.6             2000, sections 120A.40; 122A.51; 122A.61, subdivision 
  1.7             2; 126C.12; 126C.125; Minnesota Statutes 2001 
  1.8             Supplement, section 122A.61, subdivision 1.  
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 177.42, 
  1.11  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 2.  [PROJECT.] "Project" means erection, 
  1.13  construction, remodeling, or repairing of a public building or 
  1.14  other public work, except a public kindergarten through grade 12 
  1.15  facility, financed in whole or part by state funds.  
  1.16     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective the day 
  1.17  following final enactment and applies to all contracts for 
  1.18  erecting, constructing, remodeling, or repairing a public 
  1.19  kindergarten through grade 12 school facility entered into after 
  1.20  that date.  
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [REPEALER.] 
  1.22     (a) Minnesota Statutes 2000, sections 120A.40; 122A.51; 
  1.23  122A.61, subdivision 2; 126C.12; and 126C.125, are repealed. 
  1.24     (b) Minnesota Statutes 2001 Supplement, section 122A.61, 
  1.25  subdivision 1, is repealed.  
  1.26     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for the 
  1.27  2002-2003 school year and later.
