relating to education; appropriating money for tribal education liaisons.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

The sums indicated in this section are
appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of education for the fiscal year
designated.

For grants to Leech Lake-area school districts
to hire tribal education liaisons to address truancy and other issues in an effort to close the
achievement gap in Native American students served by these districts:

Grants shall be awarded in equal amounts: $100,000 each year is for Independent
School District No. 115, Cass Lake-Bena; $100,000 each year is for a partnership between
Independent School Districts Nos. 317, Deer River, and 318, Grand Rapids; $100,000 each
year is for Independent School District No. 113, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley; $100,000
each year is for Independent School District No. 118, Northland Community Schools; and
$100,000 each year is for a partnership between Independent School Districts Nos. 31,
Bemidji, and 32, Blackduck. Any balance in the first year does not cancel but is available
in the second year. The base appropriation for the next biennium is $500,000 each year.
