  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to municipalities; providing an exception to 
  1.3             tort liability for geographic information systems 
  1.4             information; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             466.03, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 466.03, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 21.  [GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) 
  1.10  INFORMATION.] Any claim arising from alleged or actual 
  1.11  inaccuracies in information from geographic information systems 
  1.12  (GIS) used by the public; if the municipality provides a 
  1.13  disclaimer of the accuracy of the information at any point of 
  1.14  initial contact with a geographic information system to which 
  1.15  the public has general access.  GIS information includes 
  1.16  information generated from an organized collection of computer 
  1.17  hardware, software, and geographic data designed to efficiently 
  1.18  capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all 
  1.19  forms of geographically referenced information and compiled for 
  1.20  use by a municipality, either alone or with other entities, 
  1.21  public or private.  GIS data is accurate for its intended use by 
  1.22  a municipality and may be inaccurate for other uses.
