  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; appropriating money for 
  1.3             enabling libraries throughout the state to provide 
  1.4             greater public access to information on Minnesota 
  1.5             authors; appropriating money. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; METRONET.] 
  1.8      $100,000 is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal 
  1.9   year 1999 to the metropolitan multitype library consortium for 
  1.10  copying and making available to the 11 greater Minnesota 
  1.11  regional public library systems and the St. Paul and Minneapolis 
  1.12  libraries, through the Minnesota center for the book, a series 
  1.13  of video cassette tapes of interviews with Minnesota authors, 
  1.14  for the production and programming costs of the northern lights 
  1.15  cable program on which the Minnesota authors are interviewed, 
  1.16  and for operating costs the consortium incurs as a result of 
  1.17  this provision.  Libraries that receive a copy of the series 
  1.18  shall make the video cassettes readily available to teachers and 
  1.19  other members of the public interested in learning about the 
  1.20  work and lives of Minnesota authors.
