  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to school districts; authorizing metropolitan 
  1.3             council to contract to transport students in St. Paul 
  1.4             and Minneapolis school districts. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TRANSIT BUSES MAY TRANSPORT STUDENTS IN TWIN 
  1.7   CITIES.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 169.01, 
  1.9   subdivision 6, and 171.01, subdivision 21, or other law to the 
  1.10  contrary, the metropolitan council may enter into agreements 
  1.11  with independent school district No. 625 of St. Paul and special 
  1.12  school district No. 1 of Minneapolis to transport secondary 
  1.13  students to and from a school located in either school district, 
  1.14  or to or from a school-related activity within the seven-county 
  1.15  metropolitan area, on fixed routes and schedules, or as 
  1.16  otherwise agreed upon, in a publicly owned transit bus. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
