A bill for an act
relating to the legislature; proposing an amendment to the Minnesota
Constitution, article IV, section 4; providing staggered terms of office for senators
and staggered four-year terms of office for representatives.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article IV, section 4, is proposed to
the people. If the amendment is adopted, the section will read:

Representatives deleted text begin shall be chosen for a term of two years, except to fill a vacancy.

new text begin as otherwise required by this section. new text end There shall be an entire new election of all the

from odd-numbered districts and representatives from even-numbered districts shall be

The proposed amendment must be submitted to the people at the 2006 general
election. The question submitted must be:

"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to require that representatives be
elected to four-year terms and that, as nearly as practical, one-half the senators and
one-half the representatives be elected at each general election beginning in 2012?
