  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to driver's licenses; directing commissioner 
  1.3             of public safety to implement a central reservation 
  1.4             system for driver license examinations in the 
  1.5             metropolitan area and to increase the number of driver 
  1.6             license examiners; appropriating money. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [DRIVER LICENSE EXAMINATIONS.] 
  1.9      (a) The commissioner of public safety shall establish a 
  1.10  central reservation system to allow persons wishing to take 
  1.11  driver license examinations to make a reservation to do so at a 
  1.12  driver license examining location in the seven-county 
  1.13  metropolitan area. 
  1.14     (b) By June 30, 1999, the commissioner of public safety 
  1.15  shall increase the number of driver license examiners in the 
  1.16  department to at least 105. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.18     (a) $....... is appropriated from the trunk highway fund to 
  1.19  the commissioner of public safety for fiscal year 1999 for the 
  1.20  purposes of section 1, paragraph (a). 
  1.21     (b) $....... is appropriated from the trunk highway fund to 
  1.22  the commissioner of public safety for fiscal year 1999 for the 
  1.23  purposes of section 1, paragraph (b). 
  1.24     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 1998.
