  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education finance; creating ongoing 
  1.3             funding for school district telecommunications needs; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 125B. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [125B.30] [TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND CONNECTIVITY 
  1.8   AID FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [REVENUE.] A school district or a charter 
  1.10  school is eligible for telecommunications access revenue equal 
  1.11  to the amount of revenue that the district or charter school 
  1.12  received in fiscal year 2002.  For a charter school that was not 
  1.13  in existence in 2002, its telecommunication access revenue 
  1.14  equals the statewide average revenue for charter schools in 
  1.15  fiscal year 2002. 
  1.16     Subd. 2.  [REVENUE USES.] Revenue received under this 
  1.17  section must be used for ongoing telecommunications access costs 
  1.18  and may include installation charges and the costs of equipment 
  1.19  and computer software and hardware. 
  1.20     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective for revenue for 
  1.21  fiscal year 2005.
