1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to juveniles; authorizing peace officers to 1.3 transport alleged truants from the child's home to 1.4 school or to a truancy service center; amending 1.5 Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 260C.143, 1.6 subdivision 4. 1.7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.8 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1999 Supplement, section 1.9 260C.143, subdivision 4, is amended to read: 1.10 Subd. 4. [TRUANT.] When a peace officer or probation 1.11 officer has probable cause to believe that a child iscurrently1.12under age 16 andabsent from school without lawful excuse, the 1.13 officer may: 1.14 (1) transport the child to the child's home and deliver the 1.15 child to the custody of the child's parent or guardian,; 1.16 (2) transport the child to the child's school of enrollment 1.17 and deliver the child to the custody of a school superintendent 1.18 or teacheror; 1.19 (3) transport the child to a truancy service center under 1.20 section 260A.04, subdivision 3; or 1.21 (4) transport the child from the child's home to the 1.22 child's school of enrollment or to a truancy service center.
