  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; extending certain angling 
  1.3             and spearing seasons in 1998. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [EXTENDING CERTAIN ANGLING AND SPEARING 
  1.6   SEASONS.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, sections 97C.345, 
  1.8   subdivisions 1 and 2, paragraph (b), 97C.371, subdivision 4, and 
  1.9   97C.395, subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (1), and any 
  1.10  season set by Minnesota Rules, part 6262.0200, the 1997-1998 
  1.11  angling season for walleye, sauger, northern pike, muskellunge, 
  1.12  largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass and the 1997-1998 spearing 
  1.13  season for roughfish, catfish, lake whitefish, and northern pike 
  1.14  are extended through March 1, 1998, except that no spearing will 
  1.15  be permitted on Cass lake, in Beltrami and Cass counties, during 
  1.16  this extension.  The commissioner of natural resources by order 
  1.17  may close the season in all or parts of the state before March 
  1.18  1, 1998, if the commissioner finds it necessary for protection 
  1.19  of the resource.  Such an order is effective upon filing with 
  1.20  the secretary of state.  The rulemaking provisions of Minnesota 
  1.21  Statutes, chapter 14, and sections 84.027, subdivision 13, and 
  1.22  97A.0451 to 97A.0459, do not apply to this section. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     This act is effective the day following final enactment.
