  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to game and fish; requiring certification on 
  1.3             firearm hunting license that the holder is eligible to 
  1.4             possess a firearm; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 97A.405, by adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 97A.405, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 1a.  [CERTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY TO POSSESS 
  1.10  FIREARM.] Every license to take game by firearm shall have the 
  1.11  following statement printed on it:  "I certify that I am not 
  1.12  prohibited by my criminal record from possessing a firearm under 
  1.13  state or federal law" and shall have a space next to it for the 
  1.14  license applicant to sign or initial.  No license to take game 
  1.15  by firearm may be issued by the commissioner unless the 
  1.16  applicant has signed or initialed this certification. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective August 1, 2000, and applies to 
  1.19  licenses issued on or after that date.
