  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to counties; requiring a levy in certain 
  1.3             counties that provide revenue for county-owned nursing 
  1.4             homes but not nursing homes owned by other public 
  1.5             bodies; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes, chapter 373. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [373.251] [LEVY FOR NON-COUNTY-OWNED PUBLIC 
  1.9   NURSING HOMES.] 
  1.10     (a) If a county owns a nursing home that is funded in whole 
  1.11  or part with county revenue, the county must levy an equal 
  1.12  amount annually to be distributed to all other nursing homes 
  1.13  within the county that are owned by public bodies. 
  1.14     (b) The proceeds of the levy authorized by paragraph (a) 
  1.15  must be prorated among the recipient nursing homes in the 
  1.16  proportion that the number of beds in each recipient nursing 
  1.17  home is to the number of beds in all the recipient nursing homes 
  1.18  in the county. 
  1.19     (c) The levy authorized by paragraph (a) may be levied in 
  1.20  addition to all other county levies authorized by law. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [BEGINS FOR TAXES PAYABLE IN 2004.] 
  1.22     The levy added by section 1, paragraph (a), must first be 
  1.23  levied in 2003, payable in 2004.
