  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to economic development; allowing designation 
  1.3             as an enterprise zone of property in St. Paul located 
  1.4             in a transit zone; amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, 
  1.5             section 469.303. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 469.303, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      469.303 [ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.] 
  1.10     An area within the city is eligible for designation as an 
  1.11  enterprise zone if the area (1) includes census tracts eligible 
  1.12  for a federal empowerment zone or enterprise community as 
  1.13  defined by the United States Department of Housing and Urban 
  1.14  Development under Public Law Number 103-66, notwithstanding the 
  1.15  maximum zone population standard under the federal empowerment 
  1.16  zone program for cities with a population under 500,000 or, (2) 
  1.17  is an area within a city of the second class that is designated 
  1.18  as an economically depressed area by the United States 
  1.19  Department of Commerce, or (3) includes property located in St. 
  1.20  Paul in a transit zone as defined in section 473.3915, 
  1.21  subdivision 3. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
