  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to insurance; modifying mandatory wage loss 
  1.3             coverage under automobile insurance for disabled 
  1.4             persons; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             65B.491. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 65B.491, is 
  1.8   amended to read: 
  1.9      65B.491 [SENIOR AND DISABLED CITIZENS; WAGE LOSS COVERAGE.] 
  1.10     After August 1, 1987, No plan of reparation security issued 
  1.11  to or renewed with a person who has attained the age of 65 
  1.12  years, or who is receiving social security disability income or 
  1.13  supplemental security income under the federal Social Security 
  1.14  program, may provide coverage for wage loss reimbursement that 
  1.15  the insured will not reasonably be expected to be able to 
  1.16  receive.  It is the responsibility of the person issuing or 
  1.17  renewing the plan to inquire as to the applicability of this 
  1.18  section.  The rate for any plan for which coverage has been 
  1.19  excluded or reduced pursuant to this section must be reduced 
  1.20  accordingly.  This section does apply to self-insurance. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.22     Section 1 is effective January 1, 2001, and applies to 
  1.23  policies issued or renewed on or after that date.
