  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to families; providing emergency assistance 
  1.3             and transitional housing; appropriating money; 
  1.4             amending Laws 1997, chapter 162, article 3, section 8, 
  1.5             subdivision 3. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Laws 1997, chapter 162, article 3, section 8, 
  1.8   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 3.  [TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAMS.] For transitional 
  1.10  housing programs according to Minnesota Statutes, section 268.38:
  1.11       $1,728,000     .....     1998
  1.12       $1,728,000 $2,728,000    .....     1999
  1.13     Any balance in the first year does not cancel but is 
  1.14  available in the second year. 
  1.15     Of this appropriation, up to five percent each year may be 
  1.16  used for administrative costs.  A portion of this appropriation 
  1.17  may be used for the emergency services grant program under 
  1.18  section 7. 
  1.19     The base appropriation for fiscal year 2000 for the 
  1.20  transitional housing program is equal to the fiscal year 1999 
  1.21  appropriation under this subdivision. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.23     Subdivision 1.  [DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND 
  1.24  LEARNING.] The sums indicated in this section are appropriated 
  1.25  from the general fund to the department of children, families, 
  2.1   and learning for the fiscal years designated. 
  2.2      Subd. 2.  [EMERGENCY SERVICES GRANTS.] For emergency 
  2.3   services grants under Laws 1997, chapter 162, article 3, section 
  2.4   7. 
  2.5        $1,000,000     .....     1999 
  2.6      The base appropriation for fiscal year 2000 for emergency 
  2.7   services grants is equal to the fiscal year 1999 appropriation 
  2.8   under this subdivision.
