  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to waste management; prohibiting the 
  1.3             placement of oil sorbent materials in solid waste; 
  1.4             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.5             chapter 115A. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [115A.9161] [OIL SORBENT MATERIALS; 
  1.8   PROHIBITION.] 
  1.9      (a) A nonresidential generator may not knowingly place oil 
  1.10  sorbent materials that contain spilled or used oils in mixed 
  1.11  municipal solid waste. 
  1.12     (b) For the purposes of paragraph (a): 
  1.13     (1) "oil sorbent materials" includes polypropylene or other 
  1.14  plastic resin pads, tubes, sheets, or granules; corn cobs; 
  1.15  cellulose fiber; sawdust; wood chips; paper wipes; cloth or 
  1.16  other reusable materials; granular clay; diatomaceous earth; 
  1.17  amorphous silica; or any other material used to absorb spilled 
  1.18  oil and related contaminants; and 
  1.19     (2) "spilled or used oils" includes engine oils, 
  1.20  transmission fluid, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, gear oil, 
  1.21  transformer fluid, cutting oil, tempering or quenching oils, 
  1.22  grease, brake fluid, or any other petroleum or synthetic oil 
  1.23  used as a lubricant, heat transfer fluid, or hydraulic fluid or 
  1.24  for any similar purposes.
