A bill for an act
relating to state government employees; establishing a hiring preference for
individuals receiving MFIP or basic sliding fee assistance; proposing coding for
new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 43A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [43A.1112] PUBLIC ASSISTANCE RECIPIENT PREFERENCE.

new text begin (a) There is established a public assistance recipient hiring preference.

new text begin (b) For the purpose of this section "public assistance recipient" means an individual
enrolled in MFIP under chapter 256J or the basic sliding fee assistance program under
section 119B.03.

new text begin (c) Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for a vacant position and claim
public assistance recipient preference shall be listed in the applicant pool ahead of all other
applicants, except veterans under section 43A.11.
