A bill for an act
relating to education; appropriating money for Words Work grants for early
childhood literacy.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; WORDS WORK GRANTS FOR EARLY
CHILDHOOD LITERACY.

new text begin $500,000 in fiscal year 2010 and $500,000 in fiscal year 2011 are appropriated
from the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Public Law 111-5,
from eligible general purpose funds that are part of the state fiscal stabilization fund, to
the commissioner of education for Words Work grants for early childhood literacy under
Minnesota Statutes, section 119A.50, subdivision 3, paragraph (a). Any balance in the first
year does not cancel but is available in the second year.
