A bill for an act
relating to retirement; Independent School District
No. 625, St. Paul; requiring the restoration of
postretirement health insurance coverage for certain
retired teachers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 625, ST. PAUL;
RESTORATION OF CERTAIN POSTRETIREMENT HEALTH INSURANCE
COVERAGE.

new text begin (a) An eligible person described in paragraph (b) is
entitled to a restoration of school district-paid Medicare
supplement medical or health insurance coverage by Independent
School District No. 625, St. Paul, beginning with the first of
the month next following the date of enactment.

new text begin (b) An eligible person is a person who:
new text end

new text begin (1) was born on November 3, 1937;
new text end

new text begin (2) was initially employed as a teacher by Independent
School District No. 625, St. Paul, on August 30, 1971;
new text end

new text begin (3) retired on December 31, 1997; and
new text end

new text begin (4) had the person's Medicare supplement medical or health
insurance coverage canceled by school district action.

new text begin (c) If Independent School District No. 625, St. Paul, does
not restore the eligible person's Medicare supplement medical or
health insurance coverage consistent with the 1997 collective
bargaining agreement terms, the eligible person is entitled to
have comparable state-aid paid insurance coverage under
Minnesota Statutes, section 43A.24, and the commissioner of
employee relations shall certify the cost of this insurance
coverage monthly to the commissioner of education, who shall
deduct the certified amount from the next general education
revenue payable to Independent School District No. 625, St.
Paul, under Minnesota Statutes, section 126C.10, or any other
state-aid amount payable to the district under Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 126C.
