  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; requiring semiannual visits to 
  1.3             certain unaccredited nonpublic schools, homes, or 
  1.4             other institutions; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.5             section 120A.26, subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 120A.26, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [ON-SITE VISITS.] A superintendent or the 
  1.10  superintendent's designee may must make an annual semiannual 
  1.11  on-site visit visits, at a mutually agreed upon time, to an 
  1.12  unaccredited nonpublic school, home, or other institution where 
  1.13  children are receiving instruction.  Upon mutual agreement 
  1.14  between the parties, the superintendent or the superintendent's 
  1.15  designee may also visit an accredited nonpublic school, person, 
  1.16  or other institution providing instruction.  The purpose of 
  1.17  these visits shall be limited to monitoring compliance with the 
  1.18  requirements of section 120A.22.  If the superintendent 
  1.19  determines that there is evidence of noncompliance with the 
  1.20  requirements of sections 120A.22 and 120A.24, the superintendent 
  1.21  may must make additional visits during the school year.
