  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; providing for the transmittal 
  1.3             of education records from nonpublic schools; amending 
  1.4             Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 120.101, 
  1.5             subdivision 5c. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1995 Supplement, section 
  1.8   120.101, subdivision 5c, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 5c.  [EDUCATION RECORDS.] A school district from 
  1.10  which a student is transferring must transmit the student's 
  1.11  educational records, within ten business days of a request by a 
  1.12  parent, to the school district in which the student is 
  1.13  enrolling.  School districts Schools must make reasonable 
  1.14  efforts to determine the school district in which a transferring 
  1.15  student is next enrolling in order to comply with this 
  1.16  subdivision.
