A bill for an act
relating to public safety; requiring the commissioner of health to develop
methamphetamine offender education materials; requiring sheriffs to provide
inmates with methamphetamine education materials; proposing coding for new
law in Minnesota Statutes, chapters 144; 387.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

county jail inmates on the health hazards of methamphetamine use and manufacture.

Sec. 2.

new text begin [387.115] METHAMPHETAMINE OFFENDER EDUCATION.
new text end

new text begin At least once a week and at orientation the sheriff shall provide all persons
incarcerated in the county jail unit with educational materials on the hazards of
methamphetamine use and manufacture. At a minimum, the sheriff shall require all
offenders to watch an audiovisual recording and distribute written materials detailing the
health hazards created by methamphetamine use and manufacture. The commissioner of
health shall create standard materials for the sheriff to use in satisfying this requirement
pursuant to section 144.0506. The sheriff is authorized to supplement the materials
provided by the commissioner as the sheriff deems necessary.
