  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public safety; providing for matching 
  1.3             funds for federal disaster relief; appropriating money.
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION FOR FLOOD DISASTER RELIEF.] 
  1.6      $15,000,000 is appropriated in fiscal year 1997 from the 
  1.7   general fund to the commissioner of public safety to be used as 
  1.8   a state match for federal disaster funds related to the 1997 
  1.9   flood, according to the formula agreed to by the state and the 
  1.10  federal emergency management agency.  This appropriation is in 
  1.11  addition to the appropriation in Laws 1997, chapter 12, article 
  1.12  1, section 2.  This appropriation does not cancel, but is 
  1.13  available until expended.  If, by September 1, 1997, the 
  1.14  commissioner of public safety determines that any of this 
  1.15  appropriation is not needed for the purpose specified, the 
  1.16  amount so identified reverts to the general fund. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.18     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
